The Treo 750v [and 750] has a static today plugin with the Operator Name, and a Bluetooth icon on the far right. You can add some slight customization with this few registry tweaks.
--
Open up your Registry Editor and point to the ff location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting

Check the ff: entries
Enable3GLongNamePrefix = 0x1 (1) is enabled [0 = disabled]
LongNamePrefix = XXXXXXX [I changed mine to UMTS]
After changing these values wait till the device powers off and do a soft reset.
--
Results:

[on GSM network]

[on UMTS network]
--
If you disable it you would have to rely on the U or G icon on top to check if you are using UMTS or GSM network.
