Jeepneys are a not a symbol. They are a symptom.

Jeepneys are a not a symbol. They are a symptom.  Jeepneys are not a sign of Filipino ingenuity. They are in fact a sign of Filipinos refusing to move forward and clinging to an obsolete and unsafe concept left over from WWII. Until we remove jeepneys from our roads and move them into art galleries or museums, this country will not truly move forward.  The DOTC / LTO / LTFRB do not have the balls to do the right thing and slowly phase out these rolling piles of junk with a misplaced sense of being engineering feats and works of art, while in fact they are not. They are a scourge to other motorists, traffic, safety, and the environment.  I'd love to see a plan implemented that our roads would be Jeepney free in 5-10 years. Start by not giving new franchises, then stop renewing them, and of course you need to re-educate / retrain the drivers and provide them with modern safer vehicles.  Being anti-Jeepney is not anti-poor, it's pro-safety and pro-prog...

Globe Telecom is in trouble, SMART Communications, Inc. is not that much better…

Image
Globe has recently been dominant in my feeds. unfortunately for the telco it’s not positive news at all. Globe got blasted for managing their network, which according to the NTC is within their rights, via their fair-use policy (FUP) their official response leaves nothing to be desired and could be construed as a cop-out. Why does Globe Telecom compare themselves to US carriers? US carriers over-charge and treat their customers horribly. So I guess the comparison is valid. I don't see the US comparison as justifying their FUP but as an admission of guilt that their service sucks! Smart Communications, Inc. even though I still don't have LTE at home/work since switching (1 year plus) it is clear that their network is better in more places vs Globe (still YMMV). smart's response is a bit more arrogant but they are keeping up for the most part. The NTC is asking globe to explain the complaints re: their network management tactics. so they will probably get fined, and do ...

BOOM! Music and Movies now available for iTunes Philippines

Image
Wow... they weren't kidding ( Apple press release )!!! Music and Movies now available for the Philippines (PHL) iTunes store. I had lost all hope that we would ever get access to iTunes media so earlier this year I switched my account to the US iTunes store. Now you don't need to jump thru hoops like I did and stay with your Philippine account and have access to Music and Movies. TV shows are still absent. Music! Movies on the PHL store Movies on the US store Of course not everything is available but this is a huge step in the right direction.   NB: I have not tried purchasing/renting media with a Philippines iTunes account but do share your experience if you've tried it.
