Review|Voices of Summer 2006

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists - mixed by DJ GT and Project C
Ok if you like Vocal Trance you have to get this release! I mean it is awesome! Head on over to the generation trance website and forum! By the way the album cover I made on my own [just wasn't feeling what was available on the GT forums].
CD01 Rising 11 Tracks
CD02 Always 12 Tracks

Review|Gatecrasher: Forever (2006)

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists
Here is another installment of the 'Gatecrasher' series like the first 2 crasher compilations this one is also three (3) CDs composed of fifty (50) definitive trance and house tracks that plot the club's musical growth. The track selection is top notch, although the mixing IMHO could've been done a bit better. I am unsure if this was mixed by a DJ or automated like some other compilations, it does seem like it is the latter.
CD01 The Folio - Classic Crasher Anthems updated for 2006 [classic! sniff sniff!]
CD02 The Future - Current and Future Hits [now this disc rocks!]
CD03 The Furious - A Sampler of the various genres [house, trance, dance, progressive, electro etc.] that popped up over the years [nice selection as well]

Review|Hed Kandi 58: Disco Heaven (2006)

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists

The downside some of the tracks on these compilations I have already [from other compilations] the upside is that the tracks are of a different mix so it is not a complete waste of time. I also like the overall flow and track selection of this compilation as compared to Serve Chilled and Beach House, this is a bit better.

Review|Marco V. - 200V (2006)

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Marco V.

Marco V., is fast becoming one of my fave DJs, I usually find his tracks and name in some pretty great compilations like Trance Energy and MOS releases. Well luckily I was able to get a hold of his artist album. I really like his style and his music, and so far I find myself listening to the following tracks more often: False Light, Second Bite, More Than a Life Away, Red Blue Purple, Terminal 18, and c:\del .*mp3.

Review|Cream Ibiza Mixed by Eddie Halliwell (2006)

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists - Mixed by Eddie Halliwell

This release is composed of 2 CDs mixed by Eddie Halliwell one of the more talented DJs around, he is slated to perform 5 dates at Cream Ibiza and so I think this album is some sort of marketing for those 5 dates. For us the unfortunate who can't afford nor have the time to go to the (in)famous clubbing island we can atleast have a taste with this release.
Disc 1 is called Altern8ive Mix - Right from the first track it's fast pumping house, techno and electro really nice!
Disc 2 is called Main Room Mix - This CD is filled with some really really awesome tech-trance tracks! I think I will be listening more to this 2nd CD... hehehe I love this stuff!

Review|Ministry of Sound: Clubbers Guide Summer 2006

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists

Here it comes... Clubbers Guide Summer 2006, another one of those Annual, Clubber's Guide, Dance Nation clones. Still worth my while since there are some tracks there that are not on the previously mentioned compilations! I've always said that even if the tracklists seem way too similar there are some gems with each release and fortunately this one is no different. I am really liking some of the songs in there. Go and give this album a listen.

Review|Ministry of Sound: Funky House Sessions 06 (2006)

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists

Ministry's release for Funky House music fans... hmmm it seems like it's cloned from MOS' Annual and Clubber's Guide series [why am I not surprised?], still some very nice tracks on there but, I already have them! Fortunately some of them are of a different mix so it is not a complete waste of my time. If you want something a bit less commercial give the Sessions by Farina a listen.

Review|Ministry of Sound: Sessions Mixed by Mark Farina (2006)

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists - Mixed by Mark Farina

Mark Farina, shows his class and skills in mixing up this release of MOS' Sessions. He takes the mix on a massive journey, going up and down, adding vocals, electrics and drums, but always maintains that classic house feel through out the whole 'session'. If you're a house fan give this album a go and you won't be disappointed.

Review|Bossa n' Marley (2005)

Category: Music
Genre: Electro-Bossa
Artist: Various Artists

My bro got this album a few weeks back and I gave it a listen. It's an interesting take on Bob Marley's music. Not as crappy as I expected and it's actually quite refreshing.

Review|Dream Dance Vol. 40 (2006)

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists

Alright here goes. This compilation leans more on House and Trance, right off the bat I felt that some tracks on there were a bit too "candy-raverish" [if that's not a classification I'm making it one, it's anything that sounds too commercial like something you would hear on a noon time show here in the Philippines hehehe]. There are some potentially nice tracks on there. Most of the tracks on here have vocals and I guess that the compiler's felt that dream = vocals? Who the fuck knows for sure, really? Pay attention towards the end of CD01 and the whole of CD02 I found myself listening to those tracks more, especially the tech and proggy trance tunes.

Review|Hed Kandi 60: Beach House

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists

Although we have crappy weather here, it's summer in other parts of the world, it's that time of year for 'summer' themed releases, being bought by the Ministry in January didn't stop Hed Kandi from churning out compilations and this year's Beach House was something that I was looking forward to. I immediately placed it on my trusty miniSD and gave it a go on my Exec. I'm sure Kandi crazed fans will enjoy some of the house gems in there. Much to my surprise I felt that the compilation lacked the UMPHHH , that came with Beach House 04.05, maybe on my second and third pass of this album I will like it more. Something is definitely missing here the last 2 compilations I have listened to from Hed Kandi have left me dissatisfied. It might be my evolving taste in music though... so don't knock this album till you've given it a whirl on your player of choice.

Review|Hed Kandi 59: Serve Chilled

Category: Music
Genre: Dance & DJ
Artist: Various Artists

Here comes another release from Hed Kandi, Serve Chilled dubbed 'A Return to the Brighter Side of Chill' is a compilation aimed at Kandi loyalist who still remember the initial releases of chilled house. The tracks on this compilation made me sleepy, now if you count that as relaxing then HK have suceeded with this release, I wouldn't listen to this on a long drive unless you have a fully awake driver. It's just too slow and repetitive for my liking I do encourage you to have a listen as you may like it. Different strokes for different folks...

Review|BJ Silicone Case for Dopod 900 [HTC Universal]

First off thanks to Cubie 'Gorgeous' Cu for this case, and JM for bringing it back to Manila.
Tired of waiting for the Universal's silicone case to arrive via my usual haunts for PDA Accessories I asked Cubie to get me one in Hong Kong. Although the label says it is for the dopod 900 it will fit all variants of the HTC Universal [including my O2 XDA Exec].
I've always been a fan of Silicone cases. I actually owned 3 silicone cases for my imate JAM, and 1 for my dopod 838 [even if it was useless as the slider could not be opened with it on the device]. Anyway now I have an alternative way of carrying my device, I just hope I don't get to pissed off with all the lint.
Adds almost no weight to your deviceLow profile and thin but offers some shock protection.
Washable. Unlike most cases silicone can be removed and washed with soap and water.Complete access to all buttons and functions.

Some parts of the device are exposed mainly the pivot assembly for the sc…

STAR WARS LEGO 6207 A-wing Starfighter

First off thanks to Mabs for buying this set for me while he was in the States.
There are a few things in life that really hit the spot. To me these include: Trance and Vocals [Vocal Trance], Pocket PC and Phone [PocketPC Phone], Cigarettes and Coffee, Char Siu [BBQ Pork] and Suckling Pig Rice Toppings from Hong Kong, LEGO and Star Wars... I call these BEST OF BOTH WORLDS COMBO.
Moving on: This LEGO set is the A-wing Starfighter the fastest starfighter during the Galactic Rebellion [Episodes IV ~ VI or the OT or Original Trilogy].
Some info about the A-wing [taken from STAR WARS DATABANK]
9.6 meters long
Starfighter / interceptor
Laser cannons, concussion missiles
Rebel Alliance

With its sleek arrowhead shape, streamlined cockpit and massive twin engines, the A-wing starfighter suggests raw speed even when parked within Alliance hangar bays. Faster than even the TIE interceptor, the A-wing is well suited for lightning strikes. It…

It was fun while it lasted... bye bye JediPAQ_v2

I've sold my hp iPAQ rw6828, reason well the Exec's screen and keyboard combo have become a better alternative than the stylus/finger driven data entry on the iPAQ. It was a fun 3 weeks and I would recommend the PDA phone to anyone who is looking at the ATOM the hp iPAQ simply put has a better sales package IMO, and of course you have hp Philippines to go to once you hit a speed bump or even a major problem with the device. I am seeing/reading a lot about the HTC TyTn lately [aka dopod CHT 9000 for Asia and it's various Euro names], I saw that it might retail for 46K PhP not bad really for the specs [about the Wizard's size, faster processor, jog dial, 3G only downside really is a diff flash card format microSD or transFlash; hey I just switched from SD to miniSD bastards!]. Maybe that would be my Birthday gift to myself come October, that's a big [make that HUGE; kudos to the "Donald"] maybe. I've really fallen in love with my Exec's VGA screen a…

Tips & Tricks|O2 XDA Exec As A 3G/GPRS Modem

Thanks to Tekflow et. al over at the xda-dev forums. I am now able to share to you how to use your Universal [O2 XDA Exec, dopod 900, and other variants] as a 3G Modem.
What you need:
An HTC Universal and a 3G service provider.
Proper Connection Settings [I use SMART Buddy Pre-paid SIM as it has better 3G coverage and performance than my Globe postpaid SIM].Wireless: Bluetooth and Accompanying Software [may be in-built or via Bluetooth USB Dongle].Wired: HTC USB Modem Driver [download from xda-dev - you must be logged on to download files] and USB Cable. The Wired Way [taken from Tekflow's post, my comments in red]:

This is for GPRS connection [but works on 3G for me atleast]
You must have from your network provider: the internet access point name, your user name and password.
Download and unzip the attached file in a folder on your desktop [look up fool!]
1. Disconnect the device from your desktop
2. On the ActiveSync icon on your desktop, open "Connection Settings". Uncheck …

Review|Motorola HT820 Stereo Bluetooth Headset

I've been wanting this headset for a long time now and thanks to my aunt now I have it hahahahaha thanks auntie mwah!
I'm talking about the Motorola HT820 Stereo Bluetooth Headset

[The package is well presented not your usual box but a bucket instead hehehe]
The headset is very well made, I like the design alot it looks classy and is not too heavy.

[Nice Looking Headset]
The right side has the jack, miniUSB for charging, prev/back and play (Moto logo) buttons.

[Right is for MUSIC CONTROLS]
The left side has the volume controls and the MFB (Moto logo) [to turn on/off, pair, answer/end calls].

[Left is for VOLUME/CALLS]
A good design decision IMO right for AVRCP left for Calls.
Comfort wise it is better than the iTech Blueband's I owned before.

[Foam is comfortable but the rubber that they used could've been softer]
The package includes the HT820's, a Manual, UK Plug to miniUSB [yes!], Wired jack [so you can use the headset wired or wireless]. IMO this is exc…
