Tips & Tricks / Use Apple Touch Icons for your Blog or Website

Image
If you save bookmarks to the Home screen on Mobile Safari you may want to try this out on your own blog. Here is how to use Apple Touch Icons for your Blog or Website. These instructions are for blogger / blogspot which I use for both my personal blog and my podcast . You will need the following: An icon or image you want to represent your site. A simple image editor to resize the image.  Dropbox or somewhere to host the image files. A bit of HTML coding. You need a total of five images to handle all the resolutions on iOS. I used preview on OSX to duplicate and resize my png file. I placed it in a folder inside my Dropbox Public folder Now for the HTML CODE: Here is the basic code you will need to put this after HEAD  on your blog's html then replace the image source with the public link generated by dropbox . portions of the code snipped for privacy. Go to Blogger Template then edit HTML paste it right after head (see photo) and save ...

iPhone Reminders Alarm Sync Issue

Image
On all three devices I am using Exchange ActiveSync to sync Calendar and Tasks for my work email account.   I have no issues with Calendar items. Items I create on any device are synced complete with correct reminder time.   I created one task on each device with a reminder for 12PM. Items created on Android or PC have their reminders wrong on the iPhone but display correctly on the respective devices. All three devices have the same time zone settings. I checked my Outlook.com account and the time zone is also correct.   So I am stumped. Have you experienced this issue?   Apple iPhone 5S iOS 7.0.6 (11B651) Time zone = Manila   ACER 4740G Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - all updates installed Outlook 2013 (Office 365 subscription) Time zone = UTC+8 (which is Manila)   Samsung GT-S7582 Android 4.2.2 Time zone = GMT+8:00, Philippine Time

Moving My Work Calendar From Google to Outlook.com

Image
As I mentioned in my previous post I am using my palm Treo Pro as a phone for my VRDC (work) SIM card. I got contacts & email (hosted on MSFT's Outlook.com) to sync using Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) however I am stuck on the calendar. The VRDC calendar which I share w/ my colleague is on Google Calendar. I've subscribed to the calendar via Outlook.com so I can see it online but since Windows Mobile 6.1 doesn't support multiple calendar sync the appointments are not pushed down to the Treo. So I decided to move VRDC calendar to Outlook.com, it was fairly easy to export the ics files from Google calendar and import them into Outlook.com. On Outlook.com After the ics files were imported into the main VRDC calendar, I unsubscribed from Google calendar (since those were now duplicates) On Apple iPhone 5S On Chrome Mobile (you can also use Safari Mobile)  went to https://www.google.com/calendar/syncselect  and un-selected VRDC In Mail, Contacts, Calendar - turne...

Just playing around with the erase iPhone feature of Find My iPhone on iCloud.com Remember: If you delete an iOS7 device via iCloud or Find My iPhone, Activation Lock will be active until you input your AAPL ID & PW or you remove it from your device list in iCloud.

Apple iPhone Event 2013

Image
The iPhone 5 is no more, it will be replaced with the iPhone 5C (C is for color not cheap!) It will come in 2 capacities (16, 32Gb) and 5 colors (green, white, blue, pink, yellow)   Basically they made a poly-carbonate (plastic) backed iPhone 5 with more color choices, complete with over priced silicone cases. More info in the iPhone 5C If you own an iPhone 5 you may skip the iPhone 5C. Apple’s new flagship iPhone is the iPhone 5S. They are coming out in 3 capacities (16, 32, 64Gb) and 3 colors (Space Gray, Silver, Gold) these are the high-end iPhones and will have that glass and metal finish. The iPhone 5S will be running 64-bit operating system. They are saying it will perform better. They are selling over-priced leather case for this higher end device. As usual they made a big deal about the camera features. They also made a big deal about Touch ID, it’s fingerprint scanner which should improve security. I think I am most intrigued by this feature. Security made simpl...

Siri is getting more features

I still think that google does better voice recognition (especially for my less than stellar English accent) but it is good to see that AAPL is adding more features to the Siri app.

iOS 7 Beta 1: First Impressions

Coming up on about a week with the iOS7 Beta 1 and it has been very buggy for me. Right now I can't go back because iTunes decided to overwrite my iOS6 backup with an iOS7 backup, I don't want to start from scratch. So I am waiting for iOS7 to get done.  I am patient it is a beta after all. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH YOUR iOS DEVICE IF YOUR UDID IS NOT VALIDATED I get random reboots. Something went wrong with App Updates and updated apps are still listed in app updates Some Apps crash on launch. Reminders app crashes when I try to create a new task. I like the new command  control center (copied from Android) although I wish they had a way to toggle cellular data ala Android. I do not like that they forced to change some of the icons (see the Assistive Touch icons look horrible) They removed the letter guide when scrolling thru contacts I hope they add it back.  I like iTunes Radio (US account only for now) I like the parallax effect I like the...
