Day 4: Details Details Details

While I appreciate the lengths that XiaoMi has gone to make their default MIUI skin very familiar to an iPhone user such as myself. I know this is nit-picking but we all know that the devil is in the details. Here are some details they hit and missed in my view…

Music & audio playback, the default app doesn't display album art. All of my music has been tagged in iTunes and the album art is not recognized. This is annoying.
How Hard Is It To Make Album Art Visible???
The lock screen also displays only the barest of media information. Sometimes when you use another audio app it displays the wrong info namely the last tracked played on the default app or nothing which I think is sloppy execution.
No Album Art / Minimal Info on Lock Screen PlaybackPocketCasts is playing What??Audible is playing a book, so the display is wrong
And here is a detail they did get right.
Dynamic Weather Icon -The weather icon changes and displays current weather. ARE YOU LISTENING APPLE? IT IS POSSIBLE, DAMN YOU!
I also like that the default alarm has the weather.
One of the best things about Android is that you can change the default apps for most of the functions. You the user can choose which app to set as default. I would love to set Google Maps as default on my iPhone because Apple Maps is a piece of shit.
Default Apps are a choice
Another Android advantage is file system access. XiaoMi’s File Manger has this nice file type / category view.
Nobody loves iTunes. But the MiPhone Manager from XIAOMI needs to be translated to ENGLISH and other languages properly, it also needs to be ported to OSX if XiaoMi wants to get into all facets of the mainstream, right now it is available for Windows only.

So far these are the details that I have noticed. Will report some more as I find them.

[edited: 7/4/2014 added more details]

Tips & Tricks|Orientation Aware Backgrounds

I just wanted to share some stuff I learned over at xda-dev's forum today.
Anyway as the title states this is about today themes and Orientation Aware Backgrounds. It's really quite simple
All you need is 2 images [3 if you want to change the Start Menu image as well] of the proper resolution.
tdywater_320_240.gif [Landscape Image] = 320 x 240 image
tdywater_240_320.gif [Portrait Image] = 240 x 320 image
stwater [Start Menu Image] = 190 x 290 image
tdywater_640_480.gif [Landscape Image] = 640 x 480 image
tdywater_480_640.gif [Portrait Image] = 480 x 640 image
stwater [Start Menu Image] = 399 x 586 image
What you do is copy the files to \Windows directory and viola! Orientation Aware Backgrounds!
Notes: The theme's default images will be used once you switch themes. So you would need to copy the files back again to \Windows dir for it to work again, what I do is I have placed Wallpaper sets in ZIP files on my Storage Card so I can change and change as desired.…
