Peter Jackson's Interpretation of King Kong

This movie is too friggin' long IMO. To me there were a lot of unnecessary scenes that we [the audience] could have done without. I can't help but feel that PJ was still in his LotR mode [each movie in the LotR trilogy were notoriously long as well]. Either that or he was pushing his effects team to new limits and showcasing what they could do. Mind you the effects on this movie were top notch and I'm not taking anything away from them. My impression of this adaptation of King Kong was that PJ wanted the audience to empathize with the beast and not fear it. This couldn't have been done any better and by the end of the movie you would almost be rooting for the big ape [well I was] but we all know how the story goes and this movie is no different [thank the maker!]. What I didn't like about the film was the excessive scenes in SKULL ISLAND. I would have appreciated it more if these scenes were shortened and the NYC scenes were lengthened a bit [don't you think Kong would've done much more damage in a city full of unfamiliar sights, sounds, and smells?] Well PJ and his effects team have outdone themselves again... next time though I hope he makes his film shorter say 150 mins max [I'd say this should be the longest run time of any film--if it doesn't fit put it in a Special Edition DVD or make a sequel].
