Party Report|BIGFISH pts.Hed Kandi Disco Heaven ft. DJ Jamie Richards

[Hed Kandi Disco Heaven '05]

As you know was at BIGFISH's Hed Kandi Disco Heaven last night. Had alot of fun and as expected there was a lot of people present for the event.

Venue/Parking: Again the venue was at PTTC [Philippine Trade Training Center]. I wonder why BIGFISH has had it's last few events here [pricing maybe or scheduling]? Really there are better venues [the TENT at FORT or LE PAVILLION in PASAY or WORLD TRADE in ROXAS]. We came early [around midnight] there was already a build up of cars and traffic we had to park at PIER ONE a short stroll from the venue, lot's of street kids selling flowers and asking for alms. It's good to note that during the event periodic announcements [using the big screen] were shown/flashed of cars that were going to be towed [bad vibes!].

Ticket Price/Entrance Procedure: PhP 600.00 not bad. Also if you got an AMP [Addict Mobile Prepaid PhP 450.00] you got free entrance. If you are an existing Addict Mobile subscriber you got 50% off, for PhP 300.00. VIP Tables were PhP 10,000.00 with drinks and tickets for 8 people. We were able to get complimentary tickets unfortunately these were valid upto 12 only! With the long lines we didn't make it [we opted for the AMP deal so now we have 2 AMP sim cards]. Entrance procedures were pretty messed up we had to get in line 3 times [1 to buy the tickets; 2 to get 'marked' and 3 to get in]? Come on BIGFISH! You could do better than that! [although I appreciate the extra layers of security it could have gone smoother and faster]

Music/DJ: Was able to listen to DJ Benjo Marquez [Team BIGFISH] and DJ Jamie Richards [Team Kandi]. The music as expected was House, House, and more House! The track that struck me most was the first track played by Kandi's Richards. Great [wonder what that song was][edit 09/21/05: The first track was Love Generation; Thanks Jo for the info]!

[Bob Sinclair ft. Gary Pine - Love Generation (30 sec sample press play to listen)]
I was also surprised with the crowd [and my] reaction to 'Everafter' which I felt was a good song which suffered from being overplayed. If you're into House music this event is tailor made for you... Honestly though I was craving for Trance on the way home [this is of course personal preference].
--
Visuals/Decor: The graphics and decor, were top-notch [for Philippine standards I guess] no falling 'stars' or decors this time :)
--
Crowd: The crowd just keeps getting younger [or am I getting older]. As I said in my Godskitchen Review, be careful of ass-grabbers, pick pockets, and mobile phone snatchers. Have fun but be aware of your surroundings.
--
Drinks: The usual, expensive and a bit hard to get.
--
Security: A lot of bouncers which aren't actually deterrents to unsavory characters. They did however stop a fight near our spot. A couple of drunk foreigners hahaha [one of them fell hard on the floor--OUCH!]
--
Verdict: The venue could have been better, but overall a pretty nice event. I'm sure alot had their fill of Kandi last night :o)

Darth Kegaw to Treo 750: It is Useless to Resist

I have never been one to keep my devices *as is* when it comes to the OS/Firmware… This 2nd Treo 750 will be no different. So I dusted off my old Cheetah files [trivia: the Treo 750 is codenamed HTC Cheetah] and decided to HARD SPL [this allows for non-carrier branded ROMs to be loaded] and flashed it to a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM. Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen… and the ROM loaded without any issues. I did notice that Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 was not included in this ROM not really a problem since I own the software as well.  I’m currently syncing my PIM data and will be installing my apps over the next few days.

Elopocalypse or Balmergeddon

So which is it? Nokia (NOK) and Microsoft (MSFT) announced a partnership today. Both lumbering companies have been in some trouble with their smartphone divisions. Both have been loosing market share to Apple, Android and Blackberry in recent years. WindowsMobile (previously PocketPC and currently WindowsPhone) once the dominant mobile OS, yes folks before the iPhone came into power Microsoft slowly but surely killed of it’s main competitor palm OS, which was acquired by hp last year and is now barely a sliver of a shadow of it’s former former former self. Just this week hp/palm unveiled 2 new smartphones the palm Pre 3 and Veer, as well as their entry into the tablet space with the TouchPad. hp being one of the top computer manufacturers at the moment has the resources to use and spread webOS like a creamy peanut butter across all markets they are in. By being one of MSFT’s biggest customers now suddenly not using Windows7 (still MSFT’s tablet OS of choice) and churning out comp...
