TOKYO - Japan's famous cartoon robotic cat Doraemon became the nation's first "anime ambassador" on Wednesday, receiving his official assignment certificate — along with dozens of his favorite "dorayaki" red bean pancakes — from Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura.
"Doraemon, I hope you will travel around the world as an anime ambassador to deepen people's understanding of Japan so they will become friends with Japan," Komura said in a ceremony attended by characters dressed up as the blue-and-white cat and Nobita, the protagonist of the cartoon.
