Tips & Tricks|Wireless or O2 Operator Plugin for WM5

Hey there here's another tip for WM5 PPC Phone Edition users:
--
Adding a Wireless or O2 Operator Plugin to your today screen.
--
PART I: Wireless Plugin

It shows Operator on the first line, WiFi [you have to use it once] and Bluetooth on the second line.
--
Things you need:
  1. Reg Editor.
Step 1: Input the Reg Keys
Step 2: Cycle the Power [Turn Device Off then On].
Step 3: Activate the plugin if it is not already activated.
--
DISCLAIMER: EDITING THE REGISTRY IS DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
--
Registry Entries [for Manual input]:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Wireless"] DLL=netui.dll
Enabled=1
Flags=0
Options=0
Order=0
Type=4
Selectability=2
note: DLL is a String Value, all the rest are DWORD using DEC as DWORD Data.
--
PART II: O2 Operator Plugin

It shows operator, short day [i.e. Mon, Tue, etc], short Date [i.e. May 1].
--
Things you need:
  1. The O2Plus Operator DLL.
  2. Reg Keys.
  3. Reg Editor.
--
I have extracted the o2opr.dll from the O2 Plus Cab + Patch and made a reg entry to show it as a today item.
--
Step 1: Download the DLL and Copy it to \Windows of your PPC [get the zip here you must be logged on to xda-dev to download]
Step 2: Import the O2Op.reg into your Registry or Manually put them in.
Step 3: Cycle the Power [Turn Device Off then On].
Step 4: Activate the plugin if it is not already activated.
--
Alarm notice does not work. I don't know how to edit this further as I just used the Wireless Tweak as a basis and replaced the DLL value with the O2 one.

Darth Kegaw to Treo 750: It is Useless to Resist

I have never been one to keep my devices *as is* when it comes to the OS/Firmware… This 2nd Treo 750 will be no different. So I dusted off my old Cheetah files [trivia: the Treo 750 is codenamed HTC Cheetah] and decided to HARD SPL [this allows for non-carrier branded ROMs to be loaded] and flashed it to a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM. Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen… and the ROM loaded without any issues. I did notice that Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 was not included in this ROM not really a problem since I own the software as well.  I’m currently syncing my PIM data and will be installing my apps over the next few days.

Elopocalypse or Balmergeddon

So which is it? Nokia (NOK) and Microsoft (MSFT) announced a partnership today. Both lumbering companies have been in some trouble with their smartphone divisions. Both have been loosing market share to Apple, Android and Blackberry in recent years. WindowsMobile (previously PocketPC and currently WindowsPhone) once the dominant mobile OS, yes folks before the iPhone came into power Microsoft slowly but surely killed of it’s main competitor palm OS, which was acquired by hp last year and is now barely a sliver of a shadow of it’s former former former self. Just this week hp/palm unveiled 2 new smartphones the palm Pre 3 and Veer, as well as their entry into the tablet space with the TouchPad. hp being one of the top computer manufacturers at the moment has the resources to use and spread webOS like a creamy peanut butter across all markets they are in. By being one of MSFT’s biggest customers now suddenly not using Windows7 (still MSFT’s tablet OS of choice) and churning out comp...
