Party Report|Superfly pts. Kaskade Live in Manila

Last April 12, 2006 Party Boys and Girls trooped on over to the Coconut Palace to witness Kaskade Live in Manila :)

Venue/Parking: The Coconut Palace was big and spacious, however there was no AC [good thing there was a slight breeze] anyway it was still too hot IMO [and we were in the VIP not the main dance floor]. The venue was setup pretty well, however I did notice that the main dance floor was just covered with plastic or something not hardwood or concrete, I wonder how dancing on soil felt? Parking was a bit far as the Coco Palace had a sort of walkway into the garden.

Ticket Price/Entrance Procedure: We went and bought VIP tickets for PhP 1,200 per person at 10 persons per table [PhP 12,000] it included a bottle of Vodka and some Sprite. Dunhill was a major sponsor and they were giving away packs of cigarettes at the entrance they also had some promo girls going around in the VIP sections giving away cigarettes, ayos! The entrance procedure was a bit sloppy they lacked high visibility signs to guide people to the correct line.

Music/DJ: When we got ther DJ Karl Ty was on deck and he was pretty much doing a good job. They even had the Pinipikan group perform, the Ballet Philippines group, oh yeah and they had fireworks [one of the pluses of an outdoor venue I guess]. Kaskade went on deck and was really good. I mean I ain't a super dooper big house music fan but the music was actually suprisingly good. Mainly SF House, Progressive and Vocal House too. IMO it lacked the umph factor of Trance but it was danceable nonetheless. There were some more DJs lined up but we didn't get to listen to them we left when Kaskade went off deck [3am].

Visuals/Decor: As I said Superfly did a pretty good job at the setup. Large screens were there for people at the back, the lights were ok as well. The sound did give out during Kaskade's 2nd song though good thing it was fixed fast. Another thing I noticed was the guy on the mic [pumping up the crowd] I think over compensated to the point of sounding lame and pilit. Baduy na e! It really messed up the vibe of the event for me.

Crowd: I saw mostly kiddies which was not really suprising. There were a lot of empty space especially at the back. Wonder if the venue had anything to do with that. Also it seems to me that the crowd was a bit dead. Maybe they couldn't appreciate the music as much as they thought they would... yes kiddies HOUSE music yan. Also I recon it would have been hard to dance on the floor of Coconut Palace's garden even if it was covered. Also we saw someone in the VIP take off his shirt JOLOGS puta! Di na nahiya kay Kaskade, I knew it was hot but taking of your shirt if you don't have the body for it is worse. BAD VIBES yun ;o) hahaha

Drinks: Water was at PhP80.00 getting drinks was easier as we had our own at the VIP table.

Security: The VIP area didn't seem guarded at all. I mean I went to the CR and came in and out of the VIP with no one inspecting my arm [which had the pass on a bracelet]. Anyway there were a lot of guards as well which is always a good thing.

Verdict: The event was ok but could have been better had it been in a bigger and AC'ed venue, it is way too hot in Manila to have open air events and charge like it's AC'ed. Hire a better guy to pump up the crowd. House music like other forms of electronic dance music seems to be much more popular especially with the younger crowd and girls but I guess the Filipino house scene needs more exposure and maturity and not be tied down to mainstream and pop house. People need to be more open minded with music.
