Twitter Down

Twitter has been having some outages lately. Yesterday IM functionality was disabled. Today too many tweets are the problem. I wonder if they should start limiting tweets (at least temporarily) and maybe validate accounts and delete unused or fake ones. -- Vincent Benedict Py Castro / Bny / 王清河 via HTC TyTN II + Google -- The FORCE Will Be With You Always...

Review|Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones was entertaining and it stays true to both the franchise and genre. I think some people are put off by some elements but these are more of personal biases and shouldn't have been taken against the film. I liked the little nods to the preceeding films and characters. Top marks for effects of course. Harrison Ford may be acient but he still has that Indy charm. Still this is just my personal opinion I hope you go see it and decide for yourself. -- Vincent Benedict Py Castro / Bny / 王清河 via HTC TyTN II + Google -- The FORCE Will Be With You Always...

The Beanster™ Blog Mobile

Here's how my mobile blog looks like: You may click the 'Mobile Version' link on the header but I've also added a QR Barcode that redirects you to my dotmobi site [you may also click it to visit the site] :)

The Beanster™ Blog v9.1.6 + Mobile Site

I mentioned that I was more sensitive to mobile friendly sites and started to look for a way to get my blog ready for the small screen. So for v9.1.6 I have added a Mobile Version link on the header of my blog [Blogger does not currently support redirection], I made my blog mobile friendly using http://mofuse.com , it's still a work in progress but I aim to keep it simple. -- If you're on a mobile browser navigate to: http://bnycastro.mofuse.mobi/

Internet Addiction sans the PC

I think I am addicted to the internet, as you can see in my last post I join a lot of sites, I also join forums and online communities for mobiles, PDAs and techsites. Still in between notebooks and as such I don't have my own PC at home [I usually borrow my sister's notebook if need to]. So usually I just connect to our home WiFi network with my PDA [currently an HTC TyTN II]. I can actually accomplish quite a lot with my PDA I have 5 email accounts [3 Gmail, 1 Yahoo, 1 Hotmail] syncing via IMAP. I have a multi client messenger [Shape IM+], I even have Skype which I don't use. I use Pocket Internet Explorer to browse. I update my blog, upload pics, post updates to twitter, watch youtube, chat on IM, surf the WWW all thru my phone. Using a mobile to stay connected has made me sensitive to the need for a more mobile friendly website. There is nothing worse than using a mobile to browse a flash/script laced site which takes ages to load. So far I can do what I want online wit

Social Networking on the Go

We can't dismiss the fact that mobiles are becoming an easier and much more popular way to connect to the WWW. The problem is some sites are not really built for the small screen. Well if you're into social networking you're in luck. Facebook, Multiply, MySpace and now Friendster have mobile ready sites up and running [IMO these are the more popular social networking sites for the Philippines at least]. -- Facebook = http://m.facebook.com Friendster = http://m.friendster.com Multiply = http://multiply.com/m MySpace = http://m.myspace.com -- Ready for some more? Check these out... There's twitter [which I'm currently addicted to], jaiku , blip , brightkite , linkedin , friendfeed , socialthing [currently in beta] there are probably more but these are the ones I've joined for now. AFAIK only twitter has a mobile friendly site it's at http://m.twitter.com -- You can add me in any [or all] of the above sites I use the same id: bnycastro

hp 2133 Not Yet Available?

I wrote hp support yesterday inquiring about the hp 2133 mini-Note PC, it was appearing in some local blogs as being available locally. hp just sent me a response saying that the mini-Note is not yet available. Hmmm I wonder if the units being sold are paralleled in or are really for the local market. I'm still planning on looking for the hp 2133 maybe tomorrow [if I wake up early and beat the traffic].

Tips & Tricks|Keyboard Shortcuts

Coffee Shop

We ate here 2 weeks ago when we went to Zoobic. I forgot to post about the place. I was very hungry so I had the GIANT TACO first. The TACO shell is actually lumpia wrapper, which was a let down. It's huge but not great. I then had the Roast Beef, the beef was ok but the gravy was very bland. [Giant Taco] [Roast Beef]

Xtremely Xpresso

When we arrived in Subic on Saturday we decided to have lunch at Xtremely Xpresso near our hotel. Of course I ordered the giant burger from their burger shack. It's called Ben's Delight. While it is huge I was a bit disappointed that the patty did not reach the edge of the bun :( the patty was also thin, I think it's almost similar amount of beef with their regular sized burgers but just spread thinner to make it look bigger. I was able to finish 3/4 of the burger before asking Chi Chi Boy for help. I wish it was more juicy but I loved the grilled taste, though the giant burger was ok, I'd also recommend getting their regular sized burger.

Tips & Tricks|Microsoft Voice Command

If you have a Windows Mobile Professional [read: PocketPC Phone Edition] or Classic [read: PocketPC] device and you want some verbal alerts/automation you may want to consider Microsoft's Voice Command. It's a pretty sweet application and adds geeky and coolness points [you can never have enough of those]. I've purchased the US English version. -- nb: if you have a Windows Mobile Standard [read: Smartphone] device MS also has a version of Voice Command for you but I don't think these apply to you. -- Currently I have an HTC TyTN II which comes with Cyberion Voice Command, it's a worthy application as well but let's face it, who has time to make voice tags? Microsoft Voice Command works OOTB [Out Of the Box] without training or tagging which I really like :) -- Now let's discuss how to clean up your device of those Cyberion Voice Command stuff -- What you need: WM Device [WM5 and up] Microsoft Voice Command [as of writing it's 1.60.4622.0] File Explorer

Tips & Tricks|Disable Automatic Data Connection

Does your device ever connect without your permission thereby elevating your data costs? Well here's a fast and simple trick to save you some moohlah on data. -- Tap Start > Settings > Connections [tab] > Connections Tap Manage Existing > select your Connection (in this case it's SMART Internet Settings) > Edit Tap Next > Delete the last letter/number of the access point (in this case it is t from internet) > Next > Finish -- Now each time your device attempts to connect it'll error out and won't connect. Remember you need to add the letter/number you deleted to get data again. This tip is not elegant but it works, I've been using it for awhile and I only enable data when I need it. This does not affect WiFi or MMS :)

Will (Touch) Diamonds be a Geeks Best Friend???

As promised HTC announced a new product yesterday in London. It's been doing the rounds on the internet for a few weeks as leaked images and specs but now we have it straight from the Taiwan based firm. Say hello to the HTC Touch Diamond . -- Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional [although I'm still wondering why it has WM Standard Home/Back keys] 2.8" VGA Screen Triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE [900/1800/1900 MHz]+ Dualband HSDPA [900/2100 MHz] Qualcomm MSM7201A 528MHz processor 192Mb RAM / 256Mb ROM / 4Gb Memory WiFi Bluetooth 2.0 EDR A-GPS FM tuner ExtUSB 3.2MP / 0.3MP cameras for Imaging/Telephony 900 maH battery Accelerometer Fancy UI on top of WM6.1 dubbed TouchFLO™ 3D Opera, Youtube access 110g [w/ batt] -- Though I'm happy to see loads of RAM/ROM and 4Gb of internal storage I'm surprised to see that they removed the microSD card slot for this device. That's a definite point against this device. Triband is so 90's I wonder why this isn't Quadband? Maybe it's

Slow Like Molasses

My desktop is really really slow, it doesn't feel like it's CoreDuo 1.8Ghz with 2Gb of RAM at all... I guess swapping in my old HDD with an existing XP install isn't an ideal way to go about things. I think the drivers and crap that I needed for the 1st MB is conflicting with something on this MB... Bah! It looks like I have to do a reformat of this PC. All my files are on a 2ndary drive so that's not going to be a problem. It's time spent installing all the applications I use. The good thing is I get to have an ultra clean PC after cause I can opt out of installing applications that I don't use that much. So far the shortlist is XP [duh], Office 2007, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Reader, Firefox, Yahoo Messenger, Activesync. These are pretty much the apps I use on a day to day basis. Then I have to go call MS to have my copy of XP activated and validated again. Then updating! Damn... that'll take a lot of time. I wonder if it's time I should be taking another
